Company Growth

All to often, as a company makes the leap from a small company to a mid-sized company, it finds the technology that was the company’s lifeline has somehow become restrictive and brittle. The company becomes unable to win the competitive advantage as it becomes apparent that it has become mired in proprietary technology that was designed to lock the company into the vendors business model. The company also finds that it is unable to add best in breed technology do to incompatibilities in the new technology.

A company will often find that Availability and Scalability seem impossible to achieve or too cost prohibitive to achieve. Critical maintenance such as patching Operating System software becomes feared as it will mean the business will need to bring down its system or face the consequences of vulnerability to less scrupulous visitors, or changes in hardware and software.

Todays business needs seem tantamount to changing the motor on a car driving 75 miles per hour down the freeway.  How can a technology be flexible and scaleable to foster growth and yet have the agility to allow customers high ability to remain open for business in a 24X7 world?
